PRACTICAL TRAINING FOR DOG OWNERS

DUTY TO TRAIN

Anyone acquiring a new dog or moving to the canton of Zurich with a dog from June 1, 2025 onwards must complete practical dog training according to the Zurich Dog Law .

Of course, the training can also be completed voluntarily . For example, if you've had your dog for a while and would like to work on its basic training, or if you want to acquire or refresh your current knowledge about your four-legged friend.

The basic course covers (learning objectives of the Canton of Zurich):

  • Promoting the bond and relationship between humans and dogs.

  • Recognizing and understanding the dog's body language .

  • Basic training of the dog.

  • Humane and safe handling in challenging situations.

  • Teaching methods for getting used to wearing a muzzle .

The Canton of Zurich considers it important – and HUNDHOCH2 wholeheartedly agrees – that dog owners manage their pets in such a way that they pose no danger to other people or animals . They should be able to handle everyday life with a dog with courtesy and consideration for others , and be able to safely control their dogs even in challenging situations .

This includes a solid, consistent, but also loving basic training based on positive reinforcement , as taught at HUNDHOCH2.

PREPARATION FOR THE COURSE

PREPARATORY COURSE

Those who wish can complete a six-week preparatory course before attending the mandatory practical dog training course. In this course, we develop a solid foundation that makes passing the practical course easier and the learning more sustainable. BROCHURE "DOG TRAINING THEORY"

For those who have not attended a theory course, it is recommended to thoroughly study the very well-made brochure "Dog Training Theory" from the Zurich Veterinary Office .

You then start with solid, basic knowledge about dogs, their needs, behavior and learning methods, and benefit from this in the best possible way.
